Sleepy July is upon us as once again we take our virtual holiday all over France following the 2018 tour. So far its been exceptional viewing with plenty of drama and even a little racing. Froome finds himself in an unfamiliar position as Thomas looks set to win his first Grand Tour. Gilbert exited spectacularly at speed and as usual most of the sprinters went home after falling off the back once the road went up. Quintana reminded us of his mountain climbing ability, taking the win on stage 17 only to crash the following day. Sagan as usual has an iron grip on the green jersey and proving that he is only human, also took a tumble on stage 17. The Mitchelton-Scott team have had a shocker, with Yates trying everything but falling out of the top 10.
If like me you enjoy keeping up with whats out there in new bikes, then Gran Fondo magazine is one to add to your list. Based in Germany, they ride exotic things we don’t get here, take them to interesting places and flog the living daylights out of them – all documented with glorious images. It’s a good read and even if you have no intention of buying, one can dream a little, right?
I’ve added an article on keeping your the chain clean and your ride smooth with minimal effort. There are many ways to do this, some involving fancy equipment and special tree hugging degreasers, but being me, this is a cost and time effective approach and a thing easily done in a few minutes after each ride.
As a bonus, check out the video on why you should choose wisely with some bike cleaning products. I’m using car wash for the infrequent occasions the bike actually needs a bath, but you can imagine what this stuff might do over time if you need to wash your bike frequently. The directions do say spray on and hose off, but still…
