This fortnight I am pleased to be able to share some sensational rides. Please take a look, I am sure you will find a couple you really need to attend. I’ve included some interesting tech from Eurobike which is worth a look. Will it become mainstream one day?
I’ve resisted making any comments about le Tour although inexplicably I am weary again much the same as every July. I should possibly see someone about that. Ruth Brown shares her account of the Goat Track Gambol, and I take a peek at what went on up on the tablelands. There is a some random light reading as well. Enjoy.
Vacancy
The Queensland Treasurer is going on leave next year and we need a caretaker while he is away. Anyone interested please contact Brian Hornby (0418 711 417) or Kym Raffelt (0431 471 839).
News
National President Garry Wall sent around some information regarding the extensive work the National Committee have been focused on in a recent workshop. Essentially this is the very mundane and yet vitally important stuff that enables us to ride as we do.
If you’ve not seen it in your inbox yet, you’ll find it here.
I wanted to share news of charges laid following the death of a cyclist six years ago. The reason is to recognise the work of Queensland police who have after 6 years made a case against the motorist who will be facing the courts. We may sometimes have doubts about enforcement, so its worthwhile I think to show the very good work our Police are capable of.
Light Reading
A poignant tale of an Italian love affair, sadly ended long ago, and the joy of finally being reunited following a search reaching across the decades. Your heart will soar at the triumph over age and infirmity as the relationship sparks anew.
It’s a story that anyone who has truly loved and lost a bicycle will relate to.
Tech
CeramicSpeed Driven: The most efficient road bike drivetrain
The CeramicSpeed Driven drivetrain has the potential to revolutionise the racing world. The innovative concept from the Danish brand gets rid of the front mech, the rear derailleur and the chain.
Read on to find out what this is all about.
Hydraulic 1x drivetrain?
The Rotor 1×13 is the world’s first hydraulic drivetrain with a 13-speed cassette. Thanks to its modular design it promises to be an excellent option for all roadies, crossers and gravel riders.
Ride Reports
Ruth Brown gives an account of her experience on the Goat Track Gambol and despite burning brakes, close passes, rain and other tribulations concludes: “This is definitely one to have on your list”.
Meanwhile, in the far north of Queensland, a contingent gathered high on the tablelands. They faced wild weather and so not everyone made it to the start line. Those who piked didn’t know what they missed as a result. Preliminary information is below with a full report to follow.
Upcoming Rides
A veritable embarrassment of choices for rides forthcoming. I’m going to call out the Rathdowney Rumble, which in addition to being an excellent day out, also supports Smiling for Smiddy. So you can have a good time and do good at the same time.
There are also rides in Innisfail, around the Northern Rivers and the BVRT, so a little bit of something for everyone.
