- 40 hours
2. 600k Super BRM 9100m vert climbing if you dare!
See map & register
- 600 kilometers
- 9100 metres
- 40 hours!
Ride Description:
Both rides start at Mawson’s Huts in Hobart CBD at 5 am on 28 February 2026.
Both rides follow the Cycleway for a while until the Super6 gets a climb in while the Flat6 takes the coastal route on the way to New Norfolk.
Soon the rides part ways, the Super6 heading out to Strathgordon while the Flat6 gradually eases up toward Poatina.
The Super6 stays in southern Tasmania, leaping over every climb available while the Flat6 does a northern loop on lovely flat roads.
However, riders may cross paths on the 50 km stretch between Baden and Brighton with the Super6 riders travelling north and the Flat6 riders travelling south. Wave encouragement to each other … you’re almost there!
The Super6 finishes with a peak over Goat Bluff and a cruise back into the Hobart CBD while the Flat6 riders check out the new Bridgewater Bridge and take the cycleway back in.
Recommendations:
- If you decide to do the Flat6, consider booking accommodation in Deloraine so that you have a place to freshen up or catch a nap at 271 km and 343 km. If you think that might be too early for a break, the Longford Riverside Caravan Park at 395 km might be an option.
- If you plan to do the 600k Super BRM, consider booking accommodation in Bothwell (356 km) to freshen up and grab a nap. There are rooms and a caravan park.

Welcome!
Thanks for your interest in one of two challenging rides.
There are two reasons you might be interested in tackling the 600k Super BRM.
- You might be aiming for a Randonneur 10000 award.
- You might like the idea of taking on a monumental challenge.
If you are aiming for the Randonneur 10000 award, please read the information in the buttons entitled Randonneur 10000 Rules and Randonneur 10000 Requirements to familiarise with what is needed to attain that award. It’s no mean feat! We are providing this event so that you can take this step toward the Randonneur 10000 award and we are happy to talk to you about this event.
If you would like to ride this event because you like the idea of taking on a monumental challenge, go you! Again, we are happy to talk to you about this event.
There are two reasons you might be interested in tackling the Flat6.
- You might be attempting to qualify for a better placement when it comes to registering for the PBP next year and you want the practice riding long distances.
- You might like the idea of taking on a monumental (but somewhat flatter) challenge.
600 km Weekend Recommendations
Our recommendations:
Before taking on the 600k Super BRM, we would strongly recommend the following:
- That you have, at least, done a ride like the ASH Dash – a hilly long distance ride.
- That you have done a ride that goes overnight like a 24-hour event or a 400 km.
- That you’ve got the time to do some Mt Wellington repeats and/or other hilly rides in preparation.
Before taking on the Flat6, we recommend the following:
- That you’ve done at least a 300 km.
- That you’ve done some fairly long, hilly rides as you’ll have about 100 km of gradual uphill near the beginning of the ride.
About the rides:
The rides are scheduled to start at 5 am although there might be some flexibility in that time if you are the only rider on either ride. We’re happy to chat about details.
You will have 40 hours from the start time in which to complete the rides, including all breaks. That means you will need to move at a minimum average speed of 15 km/h, including all breaks. In other words, if you choose to sleep for a couple hours, you’ll have to ride faster than 15 km/h.
There will be controls along the way where you will get your brevet card signed or you may need to provide other proof of reaching certain points of the route. Your ride organiser will confirm.
What do you need to know for the ride?
In addition to a roadworthy bike and a helmet, it is highly recommended you bring spare tubes, a basic repair kit, sunscreen, at least two bottles of water, some food such as energy bars, granola bars, and gels. Some cash and a mobile phone are also a very good idea.
As you will be riding through the night we recommend taking steps to ensure that you are visible such as using lights, reflective vest and reflective ankle straps.
You are in Tasmania where you could experience any sort of weather at any time. Please bring appropriate clothing for the conditions.
If you are new to Audax riding, please remember it is not a race and the roads are not closed to traffic. Please follow road rules and take particular care on descents.
In the event of an emergency, call 000.
Also let the ride organiser know what is going on if at all possible.
If something happens so that you are unable to complete the ride for any reason please call the ride organiser (phone number will be provided at briefing) to let the ride organiser know of your plans. For example, you may decide to take a shortcut back, or call a family member or friend, and it may be possible for the ride organiser to retrieve you and your bike, however, please be aware this may take some time.
Any questions about the ride, please get in touch.

Safety
Lighting (Rule 259. Riding at night)
Since some of the rides may take place after dark, you will need good lights and reflective gear to comply with Tasmanian Road Rules.
According to Tasmanian Road Rules, when riding at night, or in weather conditions with reduced visibility, you must display on your bike or on yourself:
- a flashing or steady white light on the front of the bike that can be seen for at least 200 metres and
- a flashing or steady red light on the rear of the bike that can be seen for at least 200 metres and
- a reflector on the rear of the bike that can be seen for at least 50 metres when a vehicleโs headlights shine on it.
Lights shall comply with the Audax Australia Safety Rules and you should wear reflective clothing โ see the Audax Australia Safety Rules for details.
It is entirely your responsibility to ensure that your bike complies with the requirements.
Clothing
You should make sure that youโre equipped with clothing for a variety of weather conditions โ weather can be highly variable and change rapidly. See the Bureau of Meteorology for further details of expected weather.
You will likely feel colder when you ride at night. Bring sure to bring clothing for cooler conditions even if the day time temperatures are quite warm.
Remember the old adage โ โThereโs no such thing as poor weather; only poor clothing choice.โ
Helmet (Rule 256. Bicycle helmets)
According to Tasmanian Road Rules, you, and any passenger you are carrying, must wear an approved, correctly fitted and fastened bike helmet at all times.
Equipment (Rule 258. Equipment on a bicycle)
According to Tasmanian Road Rules, your bike must:
- have at least one effective brake; and
- have a bell, horn or similar warning device in working order.
