Ride Report

Wellington Flyer

Audax Theme
Yesterday was Elbert’s Wellington Flyer, with 6 lining up at the start: from L-R: Sally, Rob, James, Jack, Elbert & Shayne. For Sally it was her 1st Audax ride in a while and for Rob, his 1st ever.

Thankfully the weather was kind to us with a temp in the upper teens and no rain of any note. The winds from Callington to Strath were blustery but not unexpected. As you can see from the photo, we had plenty of cloud cover.

Elbert’s tweaking of the route, avoiding Mt Barker, made all the difference. Up the freeway to Crafers, out along Old Mt Barker Rd to Verdun, then Balhannah, Littlehampton, Dawesly, Kanmantoo and Callington, before heading south to Strath and an early lunch (the sausage roll and iced coffee went down an absolute treat).

The climb out of Strath and back to Macclesfield and Echunga wasn’t as bad as I thought: once you hit Mylor you know you’re pretty much home. We all completed the course at 2.35pm, happy with that time. Thanks Elbert for steering us through another great ride.
