Arrived at a dark and deserted parking lot in Hobart after the 2-hour drive from Ross. The plan was to use the 200km ride to Bothwell as a training session for the UCI ‘Devil’s Cardigan’ gravel race in Derby later that month.
A few other riders rocked up, including friends Darryl and Ed, and off we went at 7am.
we started as a bunch but by the beginning of the climb from the Derwent valley we were stringing out into individuals and sub-groups. Weather stayed pleasant – clear skies and a bit of a westerly breeze.
Stopped for a coffee at the Bothwell turn around, then five of us began an enjoyable long, easy downhill back to the Derwent. Finished in 7:34, with 2,000 metres of climb and 3,900kJ energy expended. Pleased with the power to heart rate decline of only 4.3% over the distance.
