I joined Paul on a 200km Randonee through Sth East Queensland fire country, running from Ferny Grove through Samford Dayboro and up Mt Mee to Peachester, down to Deception Bay, Redcliffe, Sandgate and back to Ferny Grove via the Jinker Track. The ride was through a landscape I have never seen so dry, and at the mercy of fire weather. We saw a fire begin just over the top of Mt Mee and moments later in the valley road the Rural Fire Service step into action.

My thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by fires in the South East and the North Coast of NSW. Breathing was a challenge today, but it can’t have been anywhere near as rough as it has been for everyone fighting fires.

It would have been a very long hard ride without Paul there. I’m starting to get my pacing strategy right and I didn’t get lost, so that’s a good thing.
