Queensland Newsletter, March 21st, 2019

Here we are a few days out from the 2019 Fleche Opperman All Day Trial and I hope teams have completed their preparations for another awesome Oppy. I take my hat off to those riding the full distance – something I have yet to do but it is always in my plans. On a trip to the MCG I took time to read up on Sir Hubert Opperman in the Sporting Hall of Fame and took this photo of once of his steeds.

Oppy bicycle
Amazing what you find at teh MCG Sporting Hall of Fame. I wonder if bar mounted bidons will make a big return?

Whilst everyone finalises their preparations, we have a series of blogs from David Litt who completed the Tour de Tassie. I have fond memories of driving these roads in my youth, appreciate the ascents and descents from a motorists point of view and give kudos to anyone who rides there, let alone completes an event such as the TdT. Extra kudos for completing the series.

David’s blogs can be found here

We have completed our first UAF for the year. Peter provides his take on organising and captaining a UAF for the first time. I completely understand Peter’s point of view having undertaken the same task but on a 200km ride. Read Peter’s prose Horizontal Hundred UAF March 16 2019

We all have things we do that are not strictly audax but may involve cycling. Many of us commute but I also took on a challenge at Christmas time – read more about this upcoming epic journey in Historic Brisbane

As always, we are eager to see ride reports, stories and articles of interest to our riding community. Please send them to
