In a departure with tradition, this newsletter has some news (what a concept) which you can quickly check out below. I note there’s a lot of great rides coming up as well. The Rathdowney Rumble in particular look splendid. I hear it can be ridiculously cold and is definitely a good solid ride. Add it to your list if you’ve not done so already. And to ensure the great rides continue, join the crew at the RO calendar workshop to see what goes on and put a case forward for your favourite ride. Three sensational ride reports with a difference round out this missive. Enjoy.
News
- The R.O. and Calendar workshop to put together next season’s calendar will take place on Sunday July 8, details at the bottom of the newsletter. This is everybody’s opportunity to suggest/promote/organise their favourite brevets including new events or reinstating old rides and all are welcome, particularly R.O.s and those aspiring to R.O. status.
- The Gateway Cycle Path is opening in stages and the Flat Fifty and Horizontal Hundred Permanent routes have altered between the Boondall Wetlands Centre and Cabbage Tree Creek. The temporary path east of the Motorway has been replaced by the new and very upmarket cycleway on the other side of the Motorway, complete with landscaping and lighting. RWGPS has been updated accordingly and will be subject to further changes as the roadworks progress.
Technical Articles
This is a call for technical articles. The intent is that these cover items of interest to long distance cyclists such as equipment, nutrition, clothing, gps and trackers and so on. Technical does not necessarily mean an engineers report, but rather comparison, conclusions and potentially recommendations drawn from observations and experience.
The objective is to gather a body of knowledge useful to the Audax community at large. Even something as mundane as inflation deserves coverage. Hold that thought.

Products
Pirelli have returned to the world of velo tires and made a bit of a splash with their road tire range. Pirelli tubs have broken cover with Mitchelton-Scott announcing they have been working on developing the new racing tires with Pirelli and will officially be using them in this years Tour de France.
Recently Pirelli announced another tire, the Cinturato Velo. This looks to be a similar sort of idea to the Continental Gatorhardshell, a relatively indestructible tire intended for backroad and light offroad use – a candidate for the brevet hunting rider. It comes in wider sizes and is said to be tubeless ready.
