Not much Audax news from me just now although I see plenty has been happening. Sadly I’m in work mode with little opportunity to be out and about and catching up on whats been going down. I can’t even regale you with tales of my own, although I might have some news to share in the next newsletter (he said mysteriously).
To help your poor scribe with this miserable situation, do send your tales from the road, pictures of bikes, cattle, epic roads, things you are eating, each other…, anecdotes, pro tips and ripping yarns to audaxqld@gmail.com.
Book Review
Many of you possibly have a Kindle, a wonder of the modern age which potentially puts a lot of content at your fingertips. The issue with the Kindle is while you get the words, you don’t get the pictures. Which brings me to a tome called Fifty Places to Bike Before You Die by Chris Santella.
The blurb for the book tells us:
Fifty Places to Bike Before You Die is the ninth addition to the bestselling Fifty Places series by Chris Santella. Biking has grown increasingly popular in recent years, as both a leisure and an extreme exercise activity, and Santella covers trips for cyclists of every level. Fifty Places to Bike covers environments as varied as the Dalmatian Coast in Croatia, the Indochina Trail in Vietnam, and the urban jungle of New York City. With a healthy mix of international and national locations, the 50 chapters capture the breathtaking vistas cyclists will enjoy around the world. As always, the places are brought to life with more than 40 stunning color photographs.
National of course meaning the US which while not the Alps, still has some nice rides. If you can find a book store that has this book, take a peek. You may even want to take this book home, just for the pictures.
For a quick look at what’s inside, click here and then click on look inside. But definitely look for it if you ever see a real book store again. Or find yourself in a library.
Ride Reports
David Booth shares his recollections of the Fassifern Folly and John McMullan has an excellent day out on Frank’s Ride. Thanks to both for the ride reports.
You see some strange things…
Can anyone tell me what this is all about? Bonus points if you know where it is.
