COVID Update 13 August 2021

Our daily lives are again impacted by the delta strain of the COVID-19 virus.
A number of State governments have directed lock-downs including the minimisation of recreational activities.

As a result, the National Committee, Albury Centennial and GSR Ride Organisers have reviewed Audax Australia’s current and planned activities and determined that:

BRM Centennial Celebrations

  • The regional 200km BRM Centennial Brevets currently remain unaffected. Each region will monitor the situation and determine if change is needed closer to 11 September.
  • The week of Centennial rides in Albury has been cancelled including: the three 600km Anniversary rides, the week of social rides and the GT series.
A review is currently underway to see if some rides can be transferred to Wangaratta. Also, ACT is currently reviewing their Anniversary 600 BRM to see if the route can be changed to a loop. Announcements will be made as soon as the reviews are complete.

Great Southern Randonnee

After long and careful consideration, we advise the cancellation of this year’s GSR (all distances). Riders will receive a full refund of fees.

With the current Delta COVID situations Australia-wide and the likelihood of further rolling lockdowns and reduced accommodation density limits until years-end, the demands of running the GSR and lack of long-distance training opportunities for riders make it not feasible to continue from a logistical, financial or rider/volunteer health & safety perspective.

A review is currently underway to see if an unsupported LRM can utilise the calendar spot (November 8).

YRR and Petit YRR Awards

For those regions significantly impacted by COVID restrictions, similar to last year:

  • For YRR and Petit YRR, flexibility in the dates of rides (June – Oct) is permitted. These โ€˜flexibleโ€™ rides shall be ridden between May and 31 Oct. i.e. you must still do 12 rides in a year, just some of them may be a little out regarding the date.
  • Please contact the Awards Secretary (awards@audax.org.au) for any questions or queries relating to this.

Each Regional Committee will continue to review their Audax rides in alignment with current State Regulations, laws and local circumstances.
