Urgent Attention Required - No Qualifier Ride for Pre -Registration?

An opportunity for riders who haven't got a qualifying ride from the 2021-2022 Audax season but want to pre-register has arisen, but you will need to be very quick.

Audax member Bill from NSW discovered over the Easter break that the PBP organisers had released 150 places in the 90 hour start for pre- registration where a rider doesn't need to have a qualifying BRM ride from the last Audax Season.

These places are bound to be taken up very quickly, so if you fit this criteria go to the ACP website very soon and follow the pre-registration application process.

Pre- registration for PBP has been progressing from 14th January and goes through to 25 May 2023 with a very strong response to the earlier pre-registration slots for riders having completed 1200, 600, 400 and 300 rides in the previous year - before 30/10/2022.

From 25 May 2023, those who have pre-registered will be able to confirm their full registration if they have completed at least three of the qualifying distance BRMs.

Details from the ACP Facebook page suggest that 65 Australian riders have already pre-registered.

The various forms of insurance you might need for your European travels might include
- Travel Insurance
Personal Accident
- Personal Liability
- Property Loss

Not all insurance covers are created equal and some specifically exclude any loss or injury arising from an "organised or timed event".

Audax Australia members have the benefit of the comprehensive insurance policy which covers personal accident and personal liability during any cycling event (such as PBP).

The Paris Brest Paris organisers have previously arranged a special cover for riders to cover medical and evacuation costs following an accident on PBP, but this does not appear to be the case for the 2023 event.

Team Jersey

The National Committee has approved the above jersey design for Audax Australia riders participating in PBP 2023.

Further details and purchasing information for jerseys in short and long sleeve versions, ladies and men's along with other related "kit" items will be made available to members very soon.

Drop Bags

Audax Australia have arranged a drop bag service for its members  along the PBP route with collection from the start at Rambouillet and transport to and from the Loudéac Checkpoint at 435km going out and 782kms coming back.
More details will be made available in due course.

As mentioned in previous PBP Australia updates, accommodation near Rambouillet is probably already booked or reserved in blocks.
You may find hotel availability somewhere nearby that involves a train ride to the start.

Similarly, along the route hotel rooms have been snapped up and booked in blocks, possibly to be released for riders closer to the ride.

Volunteers Along Route

Already Audax Australia members have been in touch offering to assist at controls help, guide and encourage Aussie riders passing through.

Dreux as in previous years will have one of our enthusiastic volunteers in place (not Bernie this time).

The Route

Gradually the PBP organisers are releasing GPS files of the actual 2023 route segments on their website. It has changed from previous versions but still goes to Brest!

Best to wait a while before downloading these as the course is open to change up until days before the start.
